How to Become Certified as a Trainer
To be a team trainer, everyone needs to take the standardized Level 1 Hockey Trainers Certification Program. The Ottawa Sting requires trainers to have Level II certification.
To find a course, go to the ODHA website under "clinics" then "trainer".
Here's the link: http://www.odha.com/Pages/Clinics/Trainers.php
You can take any course offered.
If you are a doctor, nurse, physiotherapist, other health care professional, police, fire fighter and/or certified in First Aid and CPR, then bring your qualifications to the course. Show them to the instructor and this will make you certified as Level 2.
Otherwise, if a Level 2 course is not being offered, you need to take your First Aid and CPR and send it in to the ODHA office with the administration fee (currently $10). Go to the ODHA website and look under Trainer FAQ for further information.
Then before your Level 1 expires in 3 years be sure to send in your updated First Aid and CPR information with the administration fee and you will not need to re-do Level 1. Your trainer registration will be extended to the date of expiration of your First Aid and CPR.
