The Ottawa Sting Minor Hockey Association has adopted a series of Risk Management
policies and practices that help to make our members’ hockey experience both
safe and fun. We require all players, officials and parents to respect these
rules and policies.
The volunteer screening
process is a valuable tool in protecting our membership and our association.
ALL volunteers are required to complete the Volunteer Screening Forms for a
Police Background Check in order to participate as a volunteer within the Ottawa
Sting Minor Hockey Association. Volunteer
PRC (Police Record Check) forms are available electronically and at the
Kilrea (Canterbury) Arena Canteen. Upon completing the forms, please return
to the Association Risk & Safety Manager. All information will be kept strictly
confidential. After processing, each PRC form is sent to your home. Your approved
form is then required by our Risk & Safety Director (keep a copy for your
records). Please see attachment
for details.
Again this season, we have placed a major
emphasis on educating all participants about
harassment and physical/sexual abuse issues
in all aspects of our game. Included in this
process is the educational program on the
prevention of abuse and harassment in hockey
for Coaches called "Speak Out." We will continue
to be pro-active in implementing educational
programs to supplement the information some
of you have already received at coaching,
officiating and trainers clinics.
Please read through the documents attached
to this page. You, too, can be the voice
for fairness, responsibility, and safety
in hockey within your community.
